South Luangwa
The sumptuous African country of Zambia is world-famous for its many dazzling natural spectacles and the South Luangwa National Park is hardly the exception. Located in the east of Zambia, the South Luangwa National Park has proudly been proclaimed as one of the world’s greatest wildlife sanctuaries. Heavy praise? Not at all! South Luangwa is situated on a staggering plot of just over 9000-sq km and centers itself on the supreme Luangwa River. Because of its inaccessible location, the national park manages to maintain its very large and dense concentrations of wildlife without the number of visitors other famous parks have to endure. Though the amounts of visitors have started to rise in the last few years, South Luangwa fortunately remains un-congested for the time being, which is obviously a major factor in it remaining so resplendent and magnificent.
The most popular activity to enjoy here is obviously a safari. All lodges in the park organize fabulous game drives that take guests to all corners of the reserve where they will be able to view a scintillating kaleidoscope of animals, plant life, birds, and a stunning array of beautiful scenery. The other marvellous option to experience here are the amazing night time game drives, which South Luangwa is one of the only parks to offer. When the sun goes down and the lights of the 4WD vehicles power on, guests have the once-in-a-lifetime chance of seeing nocturnal animals like leopards, civets, and hyenas roam about in their natural habitats. Another wonderful, but altogether different way to explore the reserve, is by taking a safari hike; these are done with the assistance of an expert game ranger and can be a 4 hour sojourn or an overnight expedition camping in one of the bush camps that is quite rewarding in its own right.
