Camp Amalinda

A half-hour's drive from Zimbabwe's Bulawayo, the magnificent granite hills of Matobo rise proudly from the landscape, sprinkled with remnants of ancient San tribal art. Tucked between these majestic natural phenomena lies the idyllic retreat, Camp Amalinda, home to a diverse range of bird- and wildlife. The perfect wedding venue, Camp Amalinda offers newlyweds a variety of services including a wedding minister, an ethnic wedding cake, tribal dancers and elephant rides for the bride and groom.

The accommodation at Camp Amalinda consists of:

There are nine separate fully-furnished thatched rooms at Camp Amalinda, each luxuriously decorated and attached to an ensuite bathroom. Honeymooners can indulge themselves in one of two decadent, newly-refurbished honeymoon suites.

All meals are home-cooked and served at a grand teak table in open-air dining room. Guests can relax with an aromatherapy massage at the Heritage Spa or recline by the African-styled swimming pool, sipping drinks from the bar which overlooks a natural waterhole. Wine enthusiasts will find enjoyment in the naturally-formed cave wine cellar, while others might prefer to recline in the comfort of the on-site library or retreat to the chess room.

Camp Amalinda offers walks and drives through the unblemished natural surroundings, all guided by experts who have been trained with first aid courses and examined in local wildlife. Guides enrich the experience with stories of Matabele warriors and colonist such as Cecil John Rhodes. Guests can also visit the granite canvasses of ancient San paintings, or enjoy a tour of a local Matabele homestead. Guests to the camp are likely to spot leopards, black eagles and rhinos - all regular visitors to the area, as well as zebra, kudu, impala, steenbok and wildebeest.
