Chongwe River House is a spectacular feat of architecture set in the magnificent Zambezi Valley on the quiet Chongwe River, a tributary of the Zambezi. This incredible house borders the Lower Zambezi National Park, renowned for its abundant wildlife in 4,000 square km of lush wilderness.
Immediately on entering the house, you’re aware that you’re part of a unique home as you navigate through tunnels, incredible woodwork and never before seen integration of natural and man-made materials. This creation of Neil Rocher is a perfect safari base for a group of 8 outdoor people, be they family or friends. The mountain and river views are as unforgettable as the African sunsets bestowed upon guests at Chongwe River House.
Accommodation at Mvuu Lodge consists of:
The house sleeps 8 guests comfortably in 8 en-suite bedrooms, each with magical bathrooms overlooking the wild bush, waterfall showers, basins created by local Zambian artists Eddie Mumba and almost whimsical taps made of wood and bone. If the bathrooms weren’t enough to enthrall, the sitting room furniture has all been carved from a single winterthorn tree with the ceiling bejeweled in river pebbles.
Facilities in Chongwe River House are nearly as limitless as the game in the Zambezi National Park. Guests have the use of safari vehicles, experienced guides and an armed scout. For those wanting to escape terra firma, you have a boat and canoes at your disposal. For the ultimate luxury, the house is fully staffed and maintained, under the care of a house manager and guests even have a private chef who is dedicated to delivering culinary delights at every meal.
Chongwe River House is an ideal base for adventure lovers. Game viewing by day or night, in 4x4 or on foot is always unforgettable although you might have a local elephant visit the outside boma (barbecue area) en route to the waterhole. Fishing enthusiasts can take on the renowned tiger fish or you can choose to drop a line and while the day away on a dugout canoe. For a more relaxing vibe, guests can relax at the sparkling swimming pool or sip sunset cocktails on the outside dining decks overlooking the Chongwe River.
