Chongwe River Camp

Chongwe River Camp is situated where the Chongwe and Zambezi Rivers meet, opposite Mana Pools. About 50km fro Lake Kariba. The Chongwe River borders the Lower Zambezi National Park and it teems with wildlife on this 4 000+ square kilometers of unparalleled wilderness. Experience the feeling of a "wilderness home" away from home at this family-owned and managed venue.

Chongwe River Camp overlooks both rivers and the picture is framed by spectacular mountain views. The area is a premier destination for game viewing and boasts superb tiger fishing areas. Low and unobtrusive participation has preserved the area in a mixture of spectacular beauty and rustic wilderness. Guests at Chongwe River Camp are constantly reminded that they are in the "bush", as there are no fences and the animals and able to roam free.

Accommodation at Chongwe River Camp consists of:

The chalets are large thatched Mulati tents, situated under a canopy of indigenous trees. Each chalet sleeps two people with either twin or double beds with a luxury stone and reed enclosed en-suite bathroom. All the fittings in the bathrooms are made by materials found in the area, which infuses a special touch. At Chongwe River Camp even showering is an experience under the African sky at night or in the morning sunshine.

Huge herds of elephant can be seen on the banks of the river from the guests living area. Dining is al fresco which is served at the outdoor dining table. Listen to the sounds of the African bush while enjoying well-prepared and tasty dishes.

Activities are endless. They range from game viewing, canoing, game drives, guided walking tours and the ever popular - tiger fishing. A strict catch and release policy is imposed. Tackle can be supplied for tiger fishing, but fly fishermen should bring their own equipment. A boat trip is a great way of viewing elephants, lions, leopards and buffalo without disturbing the sensitive natural balance of their habitat. Guests can also view a variety of bird species.

It is advisable to take prophylactic medicine, as the Zambezi Valley is a malaria area.

Chongwe River Camp is a fairly inexpensive experience, but the memories imprinted by the unspoiled wilderness, the outstanding hospitality by its' owners, extraordinary accommodation and the calls of the wild and bird life, is priceless.

Due to heavy rains in the Lower Zambezi Valley we will be closed until 1 April 2012
