Floating the middle of the spectacular Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe, is Spurwing Island. Find yourself at this tranquil wildlife getaway after only an hour’s trip by speedboat from Marineland Marina. Spurwing Island is backed by the majestic Matusadona Mountains and close to the lush coves of the former Sanyati forest, providing excellent opportunities to see an abundance of game and birdlife.

Spurwing Island has a relaxed, family feel with its enormous pool, breezy outside dining and shaded bar area, and comfortable accommodation. All guests feel extra secure behind the surrounding electric fence operating all day, every day and paths to all rooms are illuminated as the sun sets. Spurwing has a gift shop selling essentials like postcards, sun cream and camera film and can host splendid weddings, African style, with all tastes catered for by their onsite chefs.

Spurwing Island can accommodate forty adult guests in three different types of accommodation. There are twenty twin units in total, comprising 11 tents, 6 cabins and 3 chalets. All have quaint thatch roofs, mosquito nets, stone floors, fans and en-suite shower and toilet facilities. Guests are spoilt with their own private verandahs off each unit with magnificent views over Lake Kariba and the Matusadona Mountains. The cabins and chalets feature extra sleeping arrangements if required, as well as extra chairs, built-in cupboards and dressing tables.

Because Spurwing Island is a water-locked retreat, they are able to offer a safe harbour for guests bringing their own boats, as well as various activities around the beautiful waters of Lake Kariba. Spend time on exciting or leisurely boat trips, by speedboat or pontoon, taking in the breath-taking big game as you go along. Embark on special game-viewing adventures by foot or 4x4. Fishing is also immensely popular at Kariba, so Spurwing Island offers tackle and has an experienced coxswain available for those who’d like to battle the great Tiger Fish.
